Quick Takes: Mario and Sonic News.

Image
Hey, I'm getting ready for the imminent birth of my first child, so that's what's been taking my time the last few days here. Without further ado. Here goes.  First up, Illumination's Mario Movie Has Been Delayed: Well, this was unexpected. If you ever see a message typed up by Mr. Miyamoto himself, expect it to be some pretty big shit.  This was probably a pretty good move on Universal's part. December is usually a pretty crowded month, and as Disney announced a few days ago, they're staying firm. Avatar's long awaited sequel is hitting in December, and regardless of anyone's feelings on the original film, this is going to be a gargantuan film. It would have eaten into Mario's projected gross, without a doubt, so moving it to a far less busy month, such as April, was a smart decision.  It's worked for Sonic, so why not Mario? It's also far enough away from Universal's other big tentpole of the year, Fast and Furious 10. It's going to

More Zippo Quick Takes.

Okay, ready for more quick takes? These are oddly popular.  Here we go! Nintendo has had a pretty busy week themselves. You could basically call it a mini Direct split into three. Xenoblade Chronicles 3: So Xenoblade 3 had it's release date moved up by two whole months, and I gotta say. Wow. The game looks like a humongous improvement upon the second game. The scale of the world seems much bigger, the combat looks to be much more of my speed, and I think the characters look leagues better than whatever the fuck they were doing in the second one. It's also a huge vote of confidence from Nintendo to push up the release two whole months. They know they've got a good game in store, and I'm here for it. Consider me excited.  Splatoon 3: So. Splatoon 3...or as many people are calling it...Splatoon 2.5. Yeah, unfortunately, that seems pretty apt. Ever since it's reveal last year, Splatoon has had the same reaction from people. It looks extremely safe, samey and underwhelmi

The Persona 4 Golden Console Ports Are Complete.

Image
Hey!  Just a tiny update before other things. The Persona 4 Golden console ports are apparently complete and ready to go. Huzzah!  I'm unsure of the price point, but I wouldn't be surprised if Atlus bumps it up 10 or so dollars, assuming there's going to be a physical release. It is Atlus, after all.  Switch and PS4 versions have once again be reaffirmed to me. The Persona fans have fending for more news, so I figured I would throw you guys a nugget.  Hopefully, an official announcement isn't far off.

An Actual Quick Take Of Sonic Origins Post Reveal.

Woo. What a day, right?  The outpouring of support and validation that came my way today was absolutely insane and I thank everyone so much for all of that positivity that came my way. The sources absolutely knocked this one out of the park. That said, oh my word. This was a lot to take in.  Just going to start off of with the bad.  I'll be frank: This shit sucks. It's awful, it's incredibly greedy, and it shows how absolutely rock stupid and incompetent SEGA of America actually is.  Have they lost their fucking minds? Denuvo? No physical release? What the fuck is this all about?  The internet is destroying them right now, and they should be. This shit is indefensible. Okay, got all of that out of my system. This still looks to be a solid collection. They're adding tons of new features, I'm digging the presentation, and oh boy, that story mode with the absolutely incredible animation makes this an instant buy.  This is a very solid collection and I trust all of th

A Very Calm And Reasonable Reaction To Sonic Origins.

UPDATED: Quick Take: Sonic Origins Leak.

Image
Just as I was getting this other Sonic article ready for you guys to go, of course this drops, lmao. As I'm sure everyone has seen by now, the logo and key art for Sonic Origins leaked through PSN. I absolutely love it, it looks identical to the amazing art from Mania. Whoever did it this time went all out.  Not only that, but the game leaked on the Korean Ratings Board a few days ago as well.  This leak means what you think it means. An official announcement is imminent and a full release should be right around the corner.  This is the perfect time, too. The second Sonic movie has been a huge success and the time to strike and hit with more news is right now. The team has had a lot of struggles during development, but I genuinely believe they're going to put out a quality collection. This trailer should be giving you a first look at the excellent animation that was provided by a Texas based studio. Update: Welp. Cat is out of the bag. Yup, you'll be getting new animated in

A Quick Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Take.

I loved it. Absolutely loved it. Killer sequel. It delivered what I wanted and more. Let me just say, they absolutely fucking killed it with Tails, Knuckles, all of the game focused stuff. Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey brought their A+ game as Sonic and Robotnik. What a fucking thrill ride it was.  I'll have a spoiler filled review soon as well as thoughts on what it's absolutely huge success at the box office this weekend could mean for the franchise going forward.

Late Takes: Pokemon Scarlett And Violet.

Image
Hi, welcome to Late Takes! A series where I'm incredibly, hilariously,  fashionably late to the conversation.  As many of you know, my newborn is going to be here in a matter of weeks, so I've been getting things ready while taking of care of my bedridden mother to be. Things have been crazy and the blog has had to take a backseat. With that out of the way, let us get started. In February, the next generation of Pokemon was revealed, which came to a shock to me, as I predicted due to the very recent release of Legends Arceus, that they would be taking a holiday off. Nope, I was dead wrong. Too Much Too Soon? Franchise fatigue is a real thing, that just about every franchise goes through. Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, Halo, you name it, that IP has had it. Pokemon absolutely has had it's fair share of it, especially during generation 3, a lot of people, myself included, were absolutely burned out after the last few years of PokeMania, so I skipped gen 3 for a time, I did the same
