How To *Fix* Star Fox Part 2.

Here's the second part. I may do a third part or a "true" finale to this in the future if I come up with more ideas and talking points. Star Fox is a franchise that is completely near and dear to my very being and I want them to nail this so this is a healthy franchise. I believe in the team.

Smash:

This is pretty self explanatory, but giving Star Fox additional representation in terms of new characters, stages, music, and whatnot would really go to show newcomers exactly what is so appealing about the franchise and what they're missing out on. I know many people myself who got into Star Fox due to both Melee and Brawl. Keep the strong representation going

Emphasis on Online Multiplayer:

Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Assault are both very well known and regarded for their 4 player competitive modes. Command even took this further by having fully featured online multiplayer. It's time to do that again.  Star Fox 64 3D and Zero not featuring online multiplayer was absolutely inexcusable and that's something they can't skip out on again. There's so many ideas and things you can do with an online multiplayer Star Fox game. Just look at Star Wars Squadrons or Battlefront. So much potential there.

Merchandise:

This one's an easy one. Star Fox has very little merch outside of a few action figures, some statues and a couple of clothing items. It's time to change that. Let other companies make products based off of the characters. A Fox figma or a nendoroid needs to happen immediately. LEGO sets are also an incredibly good idea. I would pay absurds amounts of cash for an Arwing and Great Fox LEGO sets. Holy shit.

Star Wolf:

They were handled wonderfully in Assault. The core trio of Wolf, Panther and Leon are all you need. Pigma is lame and he doesn't fit into the team mold at all, he's an honorless slimeball and doesn't work well with others, which is the entire point. Oikonny is a loser who just mooches off of his uncle's name. He doesn't need to be there either. Get rid of both of them. Assault got it right.

Multimedia:

Given how numerous Nintendo franchises are in various stages of film and television development at the moment, I think Nintendo has definitely thought about all of the avenues it can extend the Star Fox brand into. Film, animated CG films, anime, a western cartoon. It all would work. Star Fox is one of the easiest franchises that lends itself well to adaptations, which is why a film is in the earliest stages of development at Universal right now. Star Fox Zero The Battle Begins was excellent and proved this notion perfectly. A comic from IDW is just right there for the taking, Nintendo.

More Crossovers:

By all means, let Fox and crew crossover with other major franchises, be it gaming or otherwise. An appearance in Fortnite would make perfect sense lore wise. Fox's main weapon outside of the Arwing is his blaster. Do it. F-Zero and Star Fox have been intimately linked since the very beginning. Let Fox and Captain team up, they're both essentially mercenaries, I'm into it. I've heard numerous times that Fox will appear as a playable character in the next Mario Kart and that is brilliant strategy.  If any game can get a character a huge boost in popularity outside of Smash, it's definitely Mario Kart.

Continuing The Story:

Simple. Assault ended the decade long conflict that the Lylat System was dealing with. With Andross, General Scales and the Aparoid threats all defeated, the canvas was pretty much cleared open for literally anything. Nintendo can just ignore Command and it's nine endings entirely and just start where Assault ended. The series is a black canvas now and I think that's a good thing. New blood can come in and tell whatever story they so choose.

Do Assault Again:

This is easy. Make the new game in development a space action shooter as well as a third person. As was pointed out in the last article, this has been done correctly multiple times already. Learn from their examples and let both the land and air gameplay compliment one another. This isn't rocket science. It was the right way to go with Star Fox and still is.

I make no apologies about it, Star Fox is near and dear to me. I am ride or die for this series and I want it to do well, because I know it can. There's so much untapped potential here and all Nintendo has to do is treat the series with the proper respect it deserves. I have a truly good feeling that good things are coming our way on that front soon.

Speaking of Assault, I'll have something on that very soon, stay tuned.
