UPDATE 2: MORE INFO! VERY OBVIOUS NEWS BULLETIN: A New Nintendo Direct Is Airing Soon.

In today's "no shit Sherlock!" news, a Nintendo Direct will be airing soon.

I mean, with or without rumors, it was pretty obvious that this was going to happen, but i figured I'd get the word out now anyway.

Nintendo may be starting to wrap up the Switch, but they've got a few more surprises for fans left.

Expect this direct to have another heavy focus on Mario, with new looks at Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario RPG, Princess Peach's new game, among others. I think some more GameCube remasters are very likely as well.

Speaking of which, a little birdie has told me that Nintendo are showcasing demos of Super Mario Bros. Wonder this week in both America and in Germany at Gamescom. So expect to see a lot more of Wonder, very, very soon.

I'm hearing that this direct likely will air sometime in the first two weeks of September.

Look at that: i'm now hearing maybe even sooner. More soon.

Update: It's looking more and more likely that this direct is actually airing this coming week. A bit earlier than usual, right?

Technically, if this airs say, Thursday evening, then that would mean that it would be September 1st in Japan, so i guess the timing still does work out there.

Either way. Get ready!

Update 2:

Hello, are we all having a good week so far?

Yes,  I see you crazy folks in the comments. Relax.

I'm hearing multiple different days for when this direct is supposed to drop, from all the way to Thursday to next week. I'm gonna be on the safe side and say early next week will be the air date, that's my most educated guess right now.

That said. There's something else to look forward to this week.

That's right, we are indeed getting a Mario Wonder blowout this week, presumably either Wednesday or Thursday.  Expect a deluge of new information about the game.

I've gone and written another article about that. Look forward to that.

    1. Make no mistake. Ol' Zicko here is nothing short of a clever conman. This trickster takes advantage of the symbiotic relationship between him and the games media.

The games media needs him, because they can put out clickbait articles about the latest Nintendo leak and generate tons of views.

Conversely, he needs the media, because when they link to his little blog post, he gains more popularity and notoriety.

He's taking advantage of this relationship.

Again, the tactics of a classic conman.

    2. Pathological liar Zicko is not to be believed. Take a look at just some of his failed predictions:

Diddy Kong Racing on Switch Online
      New 2D MODERN Sonic
Sonic Frontiers' Main Theme by a "Big Youtuber"
"Surprise Announcement" in latest Sonic Central
      Sonic Adventure HD
"Suprising Art Style" for new 2D Mario (which you guessed based on already available information)
      No More Classic Sonic!
Thousand Year Door HD will be the next game after Pikmin 4

    3. "As Composer Tomoya Ohtani has recently said, there will indeed be a vocal main theme for Sonic Frontiers. Unfortunately, it isn't Crush 40, nor is it anyone that you've heard in the mainline games before. They have enlisted a big YouTuber this time around. This individual who is performing the main theme, should be a familiar face to most Sonic fans who have been paying attention for the last few years. Their work warms my heart."

      HAHAHAHAHAAHA!!

    4. I appreciate the discussion with you, but a word of advice. It generally isn't wise to be too invested in a subject like. If he's right, he's right. If he's wrong, he's wrong. It makes no difference to me either way. All this is is a hobby, and I don't mind looking at possibilities for this subject because it is enjoyable. I hope you have a pleasant evening.

    5. Agree with Jesus is King. Also would like to point out a couple of things. A big Youtuber did in fact get to perform a song in Sonic Frontiers, Nathan Sharp sung the credits theme of Sonic Frontiers. I know that is not the "main theme" but that brings me to another point, things change in development and whatever Zippo heard could have been outdated information. When you hear from a friend of a friend to give you information things can sometimes get misconstrued. Zippo has had a track record of giving us correct information such as Powerhouse Animation working on Origins, a new 2D Metroid game on Switch, etc.

But really the main takeaway should be what the above comment said and that no one is perfect.

      Delete
    6. Excuses! Zicko said MAIN THEME, not credits theme. Anything about "things get mixed up" is conjecture meant to excuse INCORRECT information.

The 2D Metroid? That was revealed by a leaker named NWeedle, Zippy simply piggybacked off that as per usual. Powerhouse Animation? Educated guess based of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania.

    7. Let's see you prove me wrong user. What exactly are Zippo's correct predictions? I'd wager you won't be able to find any.

    8. @TheCyanThunder: Thanks for providing a list of inaccurate claims of Zippo. I've been trying to gather all his claims and see how reliable he is, and usually no one is able to provide any sources. So thanks for that :) Now, let's examine.

      - The 2D Metroid game was actually leaked by someone way back in 2017 (https://www.resetera.com/threads/nintendo-first-party-thread.1934/page-26#post-1985096), re-affirmed by Vergeben in 2019 (https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/234547-super-smash-bros-ultimate/77772436?page=2), and then soft claimed by Zippo in January 2020 (https://www.resetera.com/threads/nintendo-direct-speculation-ot3-nintendo-direct-speculation-trilogy-hd.155302/page-359#post-28127104). Zippo did try to say that it would be announced and released in 2020, but that was false. NWeedle, which I hadn't heard of before, seems to have leaked the NAME of the game as "Metroid Dread" back in May 2020 (https://twitter.com/NWeedle/status/1266833951898906632) (maybe you have earlier sources?). Zippo later claimed in May 2021 that the game is done and developed by MercurySteam (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/05/why-nintendos-2021-will-be-sequel-to.html). The info may have been incorrect at times, but the 2D Metroid game had been rumored for a long while, and Zippo added that it's developed by MercurySteam in May 2021 (not sure if anyone else had said that, apart from educated guesses).

      - Diddy Kong Racing he said was "planned for release on NSO" (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/09/the-expansion-of-dkongs-begin.html). Many things Zippo has claimed have come true at a later date, and since there was no release date/window claimed, this one can still come true later on :) He also claimed Donkey Kong 64 was also being planned, and Donkey Kong Land for Game Boy NSO, "at or sometime after launch". "Sometime after launch" is vague, but that's the claim, so we'll just have to wait :)

      - New 2D "MODERN" Sonic. Yes, he did say "modern cast" and meant modern Sonic, so that part is inaccurate (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/02/sonics-30th-anniversary-and-what-to.html). In the same post, he also said that Classic Sonic would be put on the sideline and slowly be phased out, as that's what the signs were pointing to, but he also said he'd love to be wrong on that. It's still inaccurate as Classic Sonic is the star of Superstars. Furthermore, he first claimed in 2021 that Superstars (the 2D Sonic game) was developed by an outside company, but later in 2022 said that it was actually being developed internally by Sonic Team (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2022/05/scoop-new-2d-sonic-game-is-alive-and.html). This, too, is inaccurate as Superstars is developed by Arzest. To his credit, though, he did mention in that 2022 article that there would be multiple playable characters, including Tails and Knuckles, and that part is true :)

      - Sonic Adventure HD/Remakes were canceled (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/04/yes-there-were-sonic-adventure-remakes.html)

      - While he was wrong that it was the MAIN theme of Sonic Frontiers, the part about a big Youtuber getting to perform a song in the game is too specific to be a wild guess. I'm sure the youtuber part was insider info while extrapolating that onto it referring to the main theme was Zippo pushing it a bit (he's known for getting release dates wrong, and personally I think he speculates on them just to hype things up with the info he has). So yes, main theme part is inaccurate, but youtuber part shouldn't be discounted like that.

    9. @TheCyanThunder:

Alright, I do admit that some of his claims are wrong, but you were asking for correct claims. Here's a few I've collected while trying to vet his credibility:

      - Persona 4 Arena Ultimax coming to modern platforms (claimed July 2021) (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/07/persona-4-arena-ultimax-is-getting.html). Game was announced in December 2021 for Switch, PS4 and Windows.

      - Persona 3 Portable, and Persona 4 Golden getting multiplatform remasters (claimed December 2021) (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/12/the-one-article-where-zippo-posts-his-w.html) (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/12/persona-4-golden-is-coming-to-consoles.html). Games were announced in June 2022 for Xbox, Playstation, Switch and Steam (P4G he specifically mentioned was coming to Switch). There's a slight incorrect piece of info though. He hinted at 2022 release, but both were released January 2023, and that's literally right after 2022, so acceptable margin of error? 😅

      - New Mario Sports game by Camelot in first half of 2021 (claimed November 2020) (https://www.resetera.com/threads/nintendo-general-discussion-ot17-trans-rights-are-human-rights.312853/page-242#post-52480325). This was true, it was Mario Golf Super Rush).

      - A Sonic Collection coming 2021 (claimed April 2021) (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/02/sonics-30th-anniversary-and-what-to.html). The article was first posted in February 2021, but was edited a few times, so Wayback Machine shows that by April 2021 is when all the edits were finalized (https://web.archive.org/web/20210419105218/https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/02/sonics-30th-anniversary-and-what-to.html). While Sonic Origins came out in 2022 (not in 2021 as claimed), Zippo did mention correct info like Retro Engine remakes of Sonic 1&2, Sonic 3 being included after all with changes to music (claimed May 2021) (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/05/the-next-game-sonic-collection-is.html), and multiplatform.

      - More Sonic Origins tidbits that were mostly true (claimed March 2022) (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2022/03/a-tiny-sonic-origins-update.html), like Sonic 3 being a full remake and using the Retro Engine, not to expect MJ music, and Drop Dash feature in Sonic CD and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. He also mentioned talks about a collector's edition, but there was none that released alongside the game. Sonic Origins Plus physical edition did however release this year (2023).

    10. @TheCyanThunder:

      - Powerhouse Animation is actually a pretty good "educated guess". Sonic Mania animations (2017-2018) were made by Tyson Hesse with the help of Yotta studio, while Neko Studios helped animate the Sonic Mania Adventures series; Team Sonic Racing Overdrive (2019) was directed by Tyson and animated by Neko Studios as well, Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps (2021) shorts were directed by Tyson Hesse and animation help was provided by Yeti Farm Creative, and only after that was Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania's trailer animated by Powerhouse Animation (2021). The claim by Zippo was made April 2022, and at that time, only Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania had had animations provided by Powerhouse, while history suggested Tyson Hesse + Yotta/Neko/Yeti being the norm for 2D Sonic animations. This was by no means a "safe guess". To further emphasize this, Powerhouse went on to animate Sonic Origins' trailers (2022-2023), and then the Sonic Frontiers Prologue animation (2022), AND YET Sonic Superstars' opening animation (2023) is done by a Japanese studio...

      - He called Sonic Frontiers being called "Frontiers" a whole 3 weeks before the name was revealed via trademark filings (claimed October 16, 2021) (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2021/10/why-next-switch-is-sooner-than-you.html). Also said that Cyberspace levels would re-use assets from Generations, which it mostly does (this was at a time no footage of the Cyberspace levels had been revealed) (https://zippospeaks.blogspot.com/2022/06/sonic-frontiers-it-gets-worse.html). Additional details about Frontiers included (claimed February 2021) NOT a boost game, character upgrades + return of Spin Dash (was updated in update), more playable characters (this update is coming soon in 2023), planned for Holiday 2021 but acknowleged COVID might delay that (you could argue that COVID part was just a "safety net" in case he's wrong).

      - Said new Paper Mario was coming in 2020 (claimed January 2020) (https://www.resetera.com/threads/nintendo-direct-speculation-ot4-the-sequel-to-ot3-is-now-in-development.164390/page-99#post-28355644)

This is most of the claims I've collected so far, so the newer ones made in 2022 / 2023 aren't included as I haven't verified them yet. There are tons more minor "leaks" that are yet to be verified as we're still waiting for them, so hard to say anything about that.

I'd love to hear counter-arguments by you as I really want to fact-check and verify this person as reliable or not :)

  2. Thanks for the heads up, looking forward to it! It feels like the last Direct wasn't long ago.

Speaking of GC remasters, I know am in the minority but I do hope at some point we get a remaster or port of the Orre games. I played both Pokémon Colosseum and XD recently and had a good time with both.

  8. You said Persona 3 Reload would be announced in last direct BUT turned out no publisher deal has even been made.
You said Chrono Trigger Remake is on the horizon, but turns out the SNES remake was Mario RPG.
You said Mario Wonder demon on Gamescom, but it is over already and none of that happened.
You are banned on the subreddit gaming leaks for fake leaks.
You have been called out by a LOT of actually reliable leakers.
Unlike others, your so called leaks have buncha 'most likely' 'probably' and so on.

I wouldnt comment but there are videos and articles on your fake leaks that give the wrong attention and give the public false hopes.
I hope people realize the fraud you are.
