Batter Up! A New Mario Sports Game Is On The Way.

Hey Batter Batter!

In today's "no shit" news, Nintendo is preparing a brand new Mario Sports game, this time being developed by Bandai Namco and Now Production.

This is very likely to be a new installment in the Mario Baseball series, which hasn't seen a new entry since 2008's Mario Super Sluggers, though baseball did appear in Mario Sports Superstars for the 3DS in 2017.

Now, I'm sure you're asking "Zippo, what the hell is Now Production?"

If you've played the aforementioned previous baseball games, as well as the original Sonic Riders, you'll know the latter devs' work immediately. They were also the developers of last year's excellent Pac Man World remake, among many others.

GameXplain's very own Tris Valbeuna also pointed out something that I thought was quite interesting:

Last year, it was discovered that Nintendo randomly started updating Daisy renders, one of them, interestingly enough, was from Mario Super Sluggers, all of games.

Notice the slightly different skin tone, that's in line with Daisy's most recent appearances.

Now, I wouldn't call it "evidence" per se, but it's definitely something worth pointing out.

The only question we have now is, of course...

How will they mess it up this time?

10 characters? A meager story mode? Terrible post launch support? Bad net code?

That remains to be seen, but I'm certainly not getting my hopes up here.

You guys know what time of year it is. A direct is likely not far away, and Nintendo has been very quiet so far this year. Hopefully we hear more soon.

Oh, by the way, do you guys think this game could have guest charact...

Did anyone else hear a really weird, distinct noise just now? Came outta nowhere.

Maybe it was just me. My ears ain't so good anymore, I tell ya. *Shrug*

  1. Do you believe that the Kid Icarus Uprising switch remake is separate 3D action game from the Baten Kaitos remake or not?

  3. Do you know what happened to the Epic Mickey revival/remake/remaster? I remember hearing a ton of noise about it around a year or two ago and it's been dead silence since. Was it cancelled or something?

  4. I can see a "next gen" style for Mario Kart or for "Mario Party", where they make multiple DLC for packs, not unlike they've done with Smash Ultimate. However, I don't think that's as translatable to other Mario Sports games, as you don't have as easy of a package that is attractive to both make and charge for in a continuous basis.

You can do a board with minigames and characters and charge for it. Mario Kart's really based on the tracks themselves. And in both cases you can do more standard stuff or be creative, with different game modes (from changing the "board" to a non-board – imagine a Cluedo board – or have a Mario Kart Cup be a Forza Horizon-lite map). However, that's not nearly as flexible in most Mario Sports games. Are you doing a game where you don't actually hit the ball on a baseball court? How is that baseball? And until they actually accept that they have to find a flexible way to make content for a long time, these multiplayer games will not be seen as up to standard.
