(Updated: 06/12/22) Sonic Frontiers: It Gets Worse.
What's that? You want some more disappointment?
Someone in my comments kindly asked for another Frontiers scoop. Sure thing.
You know those fabled "Cyberspace Levels" you keep hearing about? I hope you guys liked Sonic Generations then, because all of the Cyberspace levels that are featured in Frontiers are from that game. There are no new level tropes, from what I gather.
Asset reuse and nostalgia pandering, woohoo!
Update:
I can't believe I have to even say this, but it needs to be reiterated. It's going to be the assets of the Generations levels that's being reused, not the full-on level maps themselves. It seems some people thought I literally meant the exact same levels, no, of course not. Hope that makes things more clear.
Hey, I didn't say the scoop would be good news, did I?
damn thats crazy
ReplyDeleteYknow, when I first heard about Cyberspace levels, I thought the levels were gonna have like a null space like look where they were all gonna be models with the same texture kinda
ReplyDeleteIdk if this is worse than that
You are so full of shit lol
ReplyDeleteHey Zippo, is there any new mario games coming out?
ReplyDeleteYou know what. I'll take it. It adds up with the whole Sonic gets his memories back gimmick from that one leak...
ReplyDeleteuh oh
ReplyDeletefrom the snippets we saw from the play testing, yeah. that was shown off quickly. kudos
ReplyDeleteThat's not great or terrible... Just because they are using generations assets doesn't mean that they aren't slightly or significantly higher fidelity. They still use the generations green hill on promotional renders for stuff and that Steve Aoki concert. And I assume those assets made for render have better textures and polygons. Generations painted those old locations in a really great light. People who aren't sonic fans can be impressed by Gens running at a good frame rate and resolution. So, if we're getting Generations assets in higher quality, that can give Sonic Team the opportunity to focus solely on decent level design... Izuka already said that this was a test game for adventure 3... For better or worse. I'm honestly looking for a good time first. Lets see if these models surpass what we've got before, before we deny what good could come out of this... Pokemon fans have to deal with this too. Game devs might be lazy on one thing to focus on other aspects of the game. That's meeting quota. Blame the Corporation... Not the devs.
