Retro Gamer's Sonic Special (Interviews With Iizuka, Hoshino And Hector)

Image
Hey, so here's an interesting thing, Retro Gamer did a huge special on Sonic for his 30th anniversary, where they discussed the entire franchise, from characters, games, music, and even his many shows.  I've seen almost zero coverage for it, so I decided to dig through it and I actually happened to find a shit ton of interesting tidbits here. So I'll post some quotes, and give my take on a few. I won't post everything here, as there's a ton more in the actual issue. One other thing, this was very obviously done  before the Central hit, so there's no details about Colors Ultimate, Origins or the new game in here.  Buy it here, as it's a very good read:  https://pocketmags.com/us/retro-gamer-magazine/issue-221/articles/994117/sonic-the-hedgehog To start off, here's how Iizuka defines Sonic's personality in the modern day:  “ Sonic is a playful hedgehog who never shies away from an adventure. He’s focused on justice and doing what’s right by his pals,

CONFIRMED! Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Is Getting A Remaster.

Image
With Atlus' recent announcement that Persona is getting some soft of shendig for it's 25th anniversary in September, people are obviously wondering what the announcements will actually be. I can tell you one, today. Arc System Works' Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is getting a remaster, and is coming to modern platforms. I haven't been told whether or not it will feature new content, but I would personally be very surprised if it doesn't.  A release is expected next year.

The Many Families Of Nintendo.

Hi! Welcome to a new ongoing series called "The Many Families of Nintendo." (Thank you for the amazing title idea, HawK!) Here, I'll be looking at development studios and their output, and then making predictions for what they’ll be doing next, with some insider knowledge thrown in here and there. I've split the insider and speculative stuff into separate parts (Knowledge and Prediction respectively) to prevent confusion.   Today we'll be looking at some of Nintendo's smaller studios, as well as some partner studios. Let's get started.   Nintendo Software Technology   This one's interesting. NST is easily one of Nintendo's most diverse teams. They've worked on everything from 1080° Snowboarding, Wave Race Blue Storm, and Metroid Prime Hunters, to Mario Maker 3DS, Captain Toad, and Snipperclips. They were also trapped in a dungeon making nothing but Mario Vs. Donkey Kong games for about a decade. They hit the big leagues earlier this year

Celebrating 40 Years Of Donkey Kong.

  40.   Forty.   For-tee.   Four decades of Donkey Kong and Mario having a fairly inconsistent rivalry. It's enough to make anyone who was around back then feel pretty damn ancient, isn't it? Regardless, today marks 40 years since Nintendo’s -- no, gaming's most iconic characters made their debut, Mario and the big ape himself. While the carpenter, who would later get a job as the plumber we know him as today, made his debut here, we won't be focusing on him today. Today I'd like to go down memory lane and talk about some of my favorite games and memories of DK.   Zippo’s Notable Entries: Donkey Kong (NES)   This is actually the second DK game I ended up playing as a child. I grew up with four sisters, and the first console the family got was the NES, and while I did get my own console eventually, my first memories of gaming started here. Super Mario Bros. 2, Mega Man 2, and of course, the port of the arcade hit Donkey Kong were my first three titles. I played Donke

BREAKING: Team Sonic Racing 30th Anniversary Edition Leaked On Sogamely.

Image
Well, Sogamely is at it again, it seems. Going by way of friend NidioD12, they've once again prematurely listed another unannounced Sonic release, this time it's a re-release of 2019's Team Sonic Racing. https://www.sogamely.com/shop/product?ref=SWTEASONRAC30ANN https://www.sogamely.com/shop/product?ref=PS4TEASONRAC30ANN Only PS4 and Switch versions have been found, but it's safe to assume this will be on everything. It's unknown if this will be an enhanced port with new content, or just a re-branded release. As I said months ago, I was told there were multiple ports/remasters coming, Sonic Colors/Origins being a bulk of the purported titles, so maybe this is another one of them?  Regardless, but it's apparently releasing on October 27th, which probably means we'll be hearing about this soon. (Updated) Why Nintendo's 2021 Is A Sequel to 2019 (Part 2)

Image
Hey, I'm back. This article look longer than expected, but I did for two reasons, I was waiting to hear back from some sources about something I'll get into shortly, and I also wanted to let things simmer for a bit. With that out of the way, what did I think about Nintendo's E3?  It was fantastic. Lots of variety, a couple of awesome surprises and Samus finally made her return to a Nintendo console in 2D, for the first time since 1994. Were there a ton of Megatons? No. But I don't think they needed many. Nintendo went back to many of the fan favorites this year, and I support that move 100%. It's going down as one of my absolute favorite directs. Nintendo saved what would've been an otherwise awful E3 once again. Let's get into the lineup. Kazuya in Smash: This was a cool surprise. I'm not much of a Tekken fan, but I absolutely felt like Namco Bandai deserved a second rep in Smash, and Tekken made the most sense. Kazuya is Tekken's Ryu, so seeing h
